Two ways to connect, and who each is for

Meta's own ads MCP server

Meta launched its ads AI connectors in open beta on 29 April 2026: an MCP server at mcp.facebook.com/ads that you add to Claude as a custom connector. It reports on, creates and edits campaigns, ad sets and ads, and manages audiences and catalogs. Since 16 July 2026, anyone with full control of a business portfolio can set rules for what AI agents may do. Meta's help page has the setup. Pick it if Meta is all you run.

AdPlug's Meta Ads connector (this guide)

It covers reports by placement, age and gender, device and country, delivery checks, audiences, pixels, catalogs, lead forms and Ad Library research, plus campaign changes you approve first. The same AdPlug account carries Google Ads, LinkedIn Ads, Microsoft Ads, and Reddit Ads, and the connection also works in ChatGPT and Claude Code. Pick it if Meta runs next to other platforms.

Which Claude plans can do this

Custom connectors work on Claude's Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, on claude.ai and the desktop app, per Anthropic's custom connector guide. The Free plan allows one custom connector, so if you already use one, swap it for AdPlug - Meta Ads.

On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds the connector first under Organization settings → Connectors. Each member then connects their own account from Settings → Connectors.

Setup in 5 steps

From a new AdPlug account to Claude answering questions about your Meta Ads takes about three minutes. There's no Meta developer app or token to set up.

  1. Create your AdPlug account

Go to adplug.app/signup, sign in with Google or email, and follow the short onboarding. It ends on your AdPlug dashboard.

AdPlug Create your account screen with a Continue with Google button and name, email and password fields.
AdPlug sign-up. One click with Google, or an email and password.
  2. Connect Meta Ads to AdPlug

On the dashboard, click Connect Meta Ads (or open the Connections page). AdPlug sends you to Facebook's own sign-in. Use the Facebook profile that opens your ad accounts in Ads Manager, the one with a role on the accounts you want Claude to work on.

Facebook then asks which businesses, Pages and ad accounts AdPlug may use. Pick the ad accounts you want Claude to work on, and include the Pages you advertise from: every Meta ad runs from a Page, so AdPlug needs them to create ads. Click through and you're back in AdPlug with Meta Ads connected.

    Zero ad accounts afterwards?

Nothing was shared on Facebook's screen, or your profile has no role on the account. Reconnect from the Connections page and tick the accounts and Pages this time.

  3. Add the connector to Claude

Open Add custom connector in Claude. Paste the name and the URL below, then click Add.

    Name

    AdPlug - Meta Ads

    URL

    https://api.adplug.app/mcp/meta-ads
Claude's Add custom connector dialog with a connector name and an AdPlug MCP server URL filled in, above the Add button.
Claude's Add custom connector dialog, captured with the Google Ads example. Use the Meta Ads name and address above.

The link opens the form straight away. You'll find the same form under Customize → Connectors, Add, Add custom connector.

  4. Authorise Claude to use AdPlug

Click Connect on the new connector. Claude opens AdPlug's sign-in: use the same email as your AdPlug account and click Approve. The connector turns Connected and its Meta Ads tools are ready in any new chat.

AdPlug Authorize access screen saying Claude wants to access your AdPlug account, then back to claude.ai, with Deny and Approve buttons.
AdPlug's authorise screen. Approve to let Claude use your AdPlug connection.
  5. Test the connection

Start a new chat with the connector switched on in the tools menu and ask:

    “List my Meta ad accounts.”

Claude calls the meta_ads_list_accounts tool and returns your ad accounts with their currencies, plus the Facebook Pages you shared and the Instagram account linked to each Page. If they're listed, the connection works end to end.

What you can ask Claude

These work as soon as the account is connected. More copy-paste prompts live in the prompt playbooks.

Weekly movers

“Compare my Meta Ads campaigns last week against the week before. Flag the biggest movers in spend and cost per result, and tell me why they moved.”

Not delivering

“Which of my Meta ads should be running but aren't delivering, and what's blocking each one?”

Cost per result jump

“My Meta cost per result jumped this week. What changed in the account, and is that why?”

Creative fatigue

“Which ads are fatiguing, with frequency up and click-through rate down, and what should we test instead?”

Placements

“Compare placements over the last month. Which bring the cheapest results, and which should I cut?”

Underspending

“Which campaigns and ad sets aren't spending their budget this month, and what's holding them back?”

Tracking

“Check my pixel is still firing and my conversions are still recording, and flag anything that stopped.”

Client report

“Build a client-ready PDF report on last month's Meta Ads: a short summary, results against the month before, the insights behind them, and what we change next.”

05

Ask Claude why an ad isn't running

Ads Manager spreads the answer across the account, the campaign, the ad set and the ad, and a live-looking ad can sit under a paused campaign. AdPlug checks them top down, starting with what stops everything:

  • The ad account: disabled, an unpaid balance, or the spend cap reached.
  • Each ad's real status: Meta's effective status, which reflects its parents, so an ad set to Active under a paused campaign shows as blocked by the campaign.
  • Review and policy: rejections and the issues Meta reports, with the next step for each.

“Which of my Meta ads should be running but aren't delivering, and what's blocking each one?”

06

How changes work

AdPlug gives Claude two tools for campaign changes. A preview tool returns the exact change (the campaign, the field, the new value) without applying it. An execute tool applies it. AdPlug tells Claude to show you the preview and wait for your OK. For a second lock, set the execute tool to Needs approval in Claude's connector settings.

New campaigns, ad sets and ads are created paused, so nothing spends until you switch it on. Meta keeps one job for people: accepting its Custom Audience terms (once per ad account) and its Lead Ads terms (once per Page). The free plan is view only, and creating or editing campaigns needs a paid AdPlug plan. Report calls and executed changes are recorded in your AdPlug Usage and Audit Log.

Ad creatives can't be edited

Meta doesn't let anyone edit a creative once it exists. To change an image, video, headline or call to action, Claude creates a new creative and swaps it onto the same ad, so the ad keeps its ID and results history. A live ad goes back through Meta's review.

Troubleshooting

Click any item to expand the answer.

Claude returns zero Meta ad accounts
Facebook asks which businesses, Pages and ad accounts to share with AdPlug, and if none were ticked AdPlug sees nothing. Reconnect on the Connections page and pick them. Your profile also needs a role on each account, which you can check in Ads Manager.
Creating an ad fails with a Page error
Every Meta ad runs from a Facebook Page. Reconnect, share the Page you advertise from on Facebook's screen, and check your profile is allowed to advertise for it.
Claude asks me to accept Meta's terms
Meta wants a person to accept its Custom Audience terms once per ad account and its Lead Ads terms once per Page, and no API can do that. Claude gives you the link. Accept in Meta, then ask again.
Claude doesn't use the connector
Connectors are switched on per chat. Open the tools menu in the message box and make sure AdPlug - Meta Ads is on, or name it in the prompt: “Use AdPlug to list my Meta ad accounts.”
A change is refused on the free plan
AdPlug's free plan can read but not edit, and the reply says so. Creating or changing campaigns needs a paid plan.
The numbers don't match Ads Manager
AdPlug reports with Meta's default attribution, 7-day click and 1-day view. If your Ads Manager columns use another setting, ask Claude to use the same windows. Conversions keep arriving for a few days, so recent days can still change.

Questions people ask

Can I connect Claude to Meta Ads?
Yes, through an MCP server. Meta's own ads MCP server goes into Claude as a custom connector. AdPlug's works the same way: sign in with Facebook, add one address to Claude, and get reports, delivery checks, audiences, catalogs and lead forms, plus changes you approve first.
Which Claude plans can add a custom connector?
Custom connectors work on Claude's Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, on the web and the desktop app. The Free plan allows one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds the connector under Organization settings, Connectors, and each member then connects their own account.
Do I need a Meta developer app or an access token?
No. AdPlug brings its own Meta app, so there's no developer app to create, no system user and no token to copy. You sign in with the Facebook profile that has a role on your ad accounts and pick what to share.
Can Claude create and edit Meta Ads campaigns?
Yes, on a paid AdPlug plan: campaigns, ad sets, ads and creatives, budgets and spend caps, custom and lookalike audiences, custom conversions, lead forms, product sets and automated rules. AdPlug tells Claude to show you a preview of each change and wait for your OK, and new campaigns, ad sets and ads are created paused.
Why does Facebook ask me to pick Pages?
Because every Meta ad runs from a Facebook Page. Share the Pages you advertise from when Facebook asks, or creating an ad fails with a Page error. Instagram placements also need an Instagram account linked to that Page.
Is connecting Claude to Meta Ads free?
Yes, for reading. AdPlug's free plan is view only: one ad platform, unlimited ad accounts, 500 requests in the first 5 days and 50 a month after that. Creating or editing campaigns, and adding a second platform, needs a paid AdPlug plan.
Does the same connector work in ChatGPT or Claude Code?
Yes. https://api.adplug.app/mcp/meta-ads is a standard MCP server, so the same connection works in Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT and other MCP clients. https://api.adplug.app/mcp carries Google Ads, LinkedIn Ads, Microsoft Ads, and Reddit Ads together for cross-channel questions.
