How to Connect LinkedIn Ads to Claude

What the LinkedIn Ads MCP does

AdPlug LinkedIn Ads is a Model Context Protocol server that gives Claude read and scoped-write access to your LinkedIn Ads accounts through the official LinkedIn Marketing API. Claude calls 10 tools under the hood to answer questions, pull reports, or stage changes. The full feature list and FAQ live on the LinkedIn Ads MCP overview.

AdPlug is an approved member of the LinkedIn Marketing Developer Program (Standard tier), so any ad account you can manage in Campaign Manager works. No API application, no developer, no server to run.

Read tools

List accounts, campaign and creative performance, daily trends, conversions, lead-gen form responses, demographics and reach reports, audience counts, targeting search, and account-agnostic Ad Library competitor research.

Write tools

Create and edit campaign groups, campaigns, audiences, lead-gen forms, and ads (single image, video, document, and more), upload media, and send up to 5,000 conversion events per call. Always with a preview step before anything changes.

02

One LinkedIn quirk worth 30 seconds

LinkedIn's hierarchy is Campaign Group → Campaign → Creative(the ad). Marketers often say “campaign” when they mean the top level, and Campaign Manager's UI does little to discourage that. The API is strict about the levels, so when a prompt is ambiguous, Claude may pick a different level than you had in mind.

Rule of thumb

Name the level explicitly: “create a campaign inside the campaign groupQ3 Demand Gen”, or “pause the creativewith the blue hero image”. One extra word saves a round trip.

Setup in 5 steps

From a fresh AdPlug account to Claude running real queries against your LinkedIn Ads data takes about five minutes.

  1. Create your AdPlug account

Go to adplug.app/signup. Sign in with Google or email, answer three short onboarding questions, and you land on the AdPlug dashboard.

    AdPlug sign-up screen.
AdPlug sign-up. One click with Google or email and you are in.
  2. Connect LinkedIn Ads to AdPlug

On your AdPlug dashboard, click Connect LinkedIn Ads (or open the Connections page). AdPlug walks you through LinkedIn's OAuth flow. Use the LinkedIn profile that has Campaign Manager access to the ad accounts you want Claude to see. Multi-account is supported: every account your profile can manage becomes available through the one connection.

  3. Add the LinkedIn Ads connector to Claude

In a new browser tab, open claude.ai/customize/connectors and click Add custom connector. Name the connector LinkedIn Ads — AdPlug, paste the server URL below, and click Add.

    https://api.adplug.app/mcp/linkedin-ads

The same URL also works in Claude Code, Cursor, ChatGPT, and any other MCP client that supports Streamable HTTP and Dynamic Client Registration.

  4. Authorise Claude to use AdPlug

After clicking Add, a new connector tile appears. Click Connect on the tile. Claude opens a popup, sign in with the same email you used on AdPlug, then click Approve on the AdPlug authorise screen.

The AdPlug authorise screen. Click Approve to grant Claude access to your AdPlug account.

The connector turns Connected and the 10 LinkedIn Ads MCP tools become available in any new Claude chat.

  5. Test the connection in Claude

Open a new chat in Claude with the LinkedIn Ads — AdPlug connector enabled and paste this prompt:

    “List my linkedin ad accounts.”

Claude calls the linkedin_ads_list_accounts tool and returns the ad accounts you have access to, with currencies and statuses. If you see your accounts listed, the LinkedIn Ads MCP is working end-to-end.

If Claude returns zero accounts or a permission error, jump to Troubleshooting.

05

Privacy and security

AdPlug stores the minimum needed to make your connection work: your account email, LinkedIn identity, and encrypted tokens for the LinkedIn Marketing API.

Encryption at rest

Access and refresh tokens are encrypted with Fernet (AES-128-CBC + HMAC-SHA256) before they hit the database. AdPlug does not store ad creatives, member-level data, or cached report exports.

Authentication uses OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and Dynamic Client Registration. Every MCP request is verified against a Supabase-issued JWT before any LinkedIn API call is made. Disconnecting from the AdPlug dashboard revokes access immediately.

Troubleshooting

Click any item to expand the answer.

The connector shows zero LinkedIn ad accounts
The LinkedIn identity you connected has no ad-account access. Open Campaign Manager, confirm your profile has at least Viewer access on the account, then disconnect and reconnect from the AdPlug dashboard with the right profile.
Claude created a campaign group when I asked for a campaign
LinkedIn's hierarchy is Campaign Group → Campaign → Creative(the ad). Everyday language blurs these levels; the API does not. Name the level explicitly, for example “create a campaign inside the campaign group Q3 Demand Gen”, and Claude maps it correctly.
LinkedIn connection stopped working after a while
LinkedIn access tokens expire and occasionally get revoked when you change your password or LinkedIn rotates security. AdPlug detects this and marks the connection as needing reconnection. Open the Connections page and click Reconnect on the LinkedIn Ads card.
Ad creation fails with a permissions error
Creating ads posts organic content behind the scenes, which needs two extra LinkedIn permissions. If you connected LinkedIn before ad creation shipped, disconnect and reconnect from the dashboard so the new scopes are granted, then retry.
A mutation says preview is required
Write tools always run a preview step first. Ask Claude to preview the change, then say execute (or run with the preview token) to apply it. This is by design and protects against accidental writes.
Claude returns stale LinkedIn Ads data
LinkedIn Ads reporting lags real time by a few hours for some metrics. For same-day reporting, request a date range that ends “yesterday” or older, and treat today's spend as provisional.
