How to Connect Reddit Ads to Claude

Connecting Claude to Reddit Ads lets it read your Reddit Ads data and make changes you approve, from community and keyword reports to paused campaign drafts. This guide covers the five setup steps with screenshots, the first prompts worth running, and what to do when something's off.

Two ways to connect, and who each is for

Your own MCP server

Reddit's Ads API is open to developers, so you can run an MCP server yourself. An admin of your Reddit Ads business creates a developer app, and someone keeps the server, the app's keys, and the access tokens running. Free, and fine if that someone exists on your team.

A hosted MCP connector (this guide)

AdPlug's Reddit Ads MCP covers reporting by community, keyword, placement, and more, community suggestions, audience estimates, a check for why ads aren't delivering, and campaign changes with a preview of each one. You sign in with Reddit and add one address to Claude. The same connection also works in ChatGPT, Cursor, and Claude Code.

Which Claude plans can do this

Custom connectors work on Claude's Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, on claude.ai and the desktop app, per Anthropic's custom connector guide. The Free plan allows one custom connector, so if you already use one, either swap it or use AdPlug's all-platforms address, which carries Reddit Ads alongside Google Ads, LinkedIn Ads, and Microsoft Ads.

On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds the connector first under Organization settings → Connectors. Each member then connects their own account from Settings → Connectors.

Setup in 5 steps

From a new AdPlug account to Claude answering questions about your Reddit Ads data takes about three minutes. You'll need a Reddit account that's a member of your Reddit Ads business, with access to the ad accounts you want Claude to work on.

  1. Create your AdPlug account

    Go to adplug.app/signup, sign in with Google or email, and follow the short onboarding. It ends on your AdPlug dashboard.

  2. Connect Reddit Ads to AdPlug

    On the dashboard, click Connect Reddit Ads (or open the Connections page). AdPlug sends you to Reddit's own sign-in. Use the Reddit account that's a member of your Reddit Ads business and has access to the ad accounts you want Claude to work on.

    Reddit then asks you to let AdPlug:

    • read advertising data through your account
    • edit advertising data on your behalf
    • post conversion events through your account
    • keep this access until you revoke it

    Click Allow and you're back in AdPlug with Reddit Ads connected. Every ad account your Reddit account can reach comes through the one connection.

    No developer app needed

    AdPlug uses its own access to Reddit's Ads API, so there's nothing to set up in Reddit's developer portal and no keys to copy.

  3. Add the connector to Claude

    In Claude, open Settings → Connectors (or go straight to claude.ai/customize/connectors) and click Add custom connector. Name it AdPlug - Reddit Ads, paste the address below, and click Add.

  4. Authorise Claude to use AdPlug

    Click Connect on the new connector. Claude opens AdPlug's sign-in: use the same email as your AdPlug account and click Approve. The connector turns Connected and its nine Reddit Ads tools are ready in any new chat.

  5. Test the connection

    Start a new chat with the connector switched on in the tools menu and ask:

    “Show my Reddit ad accounts.”

    Claude calls the reddit_ads_list_accounts tool and returns the Reddit Ads businesses and ad accounts your Reddit login can reach, with each account's currency and approval state. If your accounts are listed, the connection works end to end.

Clean up communities and keywords

On Reddit, the nearest thing to a search terms report is the community and keyword breakdown. It's where the money leaks: a community that loves to click and never buys, or a keyword that matches the wrong conversations.

Ask Claude for the communities and keywords that spent without converting, and it can prepare them as account-wide exclusions in a single preview for you to check. New exclusions are added to the ones already on the account rather than replacing them.

How changes work

AdPlug gives Claude two tools for campaign changes. A preview tool returns the exact change (with a before and after for edits, and a warning when a budget or bid at least doubles) without sending any change to Reddit. An execute tool applies it. Ask for the preview first, and keep Claude asking for your permission before it uses the execute tool rather than allowing it every time.

New campaigns, ad groups, and ads are created paused unless you ask otherwise, so nothing spends until you switch it on. The free plan is view only; creating and editing campaigns needs a paid AdPlug plan. Report calls and executed changes are recorded in your AdPlug Usage and Audit Log.

Troubleshooting

Claude says Reddit Ads isn't connected
The connector works, but your AdPlug account has no Reddit connection yet. Click Connect Reddit Ads on the Connections page, then ask again.
Claude says to reconnect Reddit Ads
Reddit no longer accepts AdPlug's access, which happens when it's revoked on Reddit's side (for example at reddit.com/prefs/apps). Click Reconnect on the Connections page and allow access again.
Claude lists no Reddit ad accounts
Your Reddit account has to be a member of the Reddit Ads business that owns the ad account. Ask an admin of that business to add you under Business settings, Members, then ask again. If the ads are yours, check you connected the Reddit login you use for Reddit Ads.
Claude does not use the connector
Connectors are switched on per chat. Open the tools menu in the message box and make sure AdPlug - Reddit Ads is on, or name it in the prompt: “Use AdPlug to show my Reddit ad accounts.”
I can't add a second custom connector
Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector. Remove the old one, or use the all-platforms address https://api.adplug.app/mcp, which carries Reddit Ads, Google Ads, LinkedIn Ads, and Microsoft Ads in one connector.
Claude has no tools for making changes
On an AdPlug team, the owner can set your Reddit Ads access to View only, and then the change tools are hidden from your AI. Ask the owner to switch you to Can edit on the Team page.
A change is refused on the free plan
AdPlug's free plan can read but not edit, and the reply says so. Creating or changing campaigns needs a paid plan.

Questions people ask

Can I connect Claude to Reddit Ads?
Yes, through an MCP server. You can run your own on Reddit's Ads API, which needs a developer app created by an admin of your Reddit Ads business, or use a hosted connector like AdPlug: you sign in with Reddit, add one address to Claude, and get reporting plus campaign changes you can preview before they run.
Which Claude plans can add a custom connector?
Custom connectors work on Claude's Free, Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, on the web and the desktop app. The Free plan allows one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise, an Owner adds the connector under Organization settings, Connectors, and each member then connects their own account.
Do I need a Reddit developer app or API keys?
No. AdPlug brings its own access to Reddit's Ads API, so there's no developer app to create and no keys to copy. You sign in with the Reddit account that's a member of your Reddit Ads business and click Allow on Reddit's consent screen.
Can Claude create and edit Reddit Ads campaigns?
Yes, on a paid AdPlug plan: campaigns, ad groups, ads and their posts, targeting, budgets and bids, account-wide community and keyword exclusions, custom audiences, and conversion events. Ask for a preview and Claude shows you the exact change before anything reaches Reddit. Anything new is created paused, so nothing spends until you switch it on.
Is connecting Claude to Reddit Ads free?
AdPlug's free plan is view only: one ad platform, unlimited ad accounts, 500 requests in the first month and 50 a month after that. Creating or editing campaigns needs a paid AdPlug plan.
Does the same connector work in ChatGPT, Cursor, or Claude Code?
Yes. https://api.adplug.app/mcp/reddit-ads is a standard MCP server, so the same connection works in Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other MCP clients. https://api.adplug.app/mcp carries Reddit Ads alongside Google Ads, LinkedIn Ads, and Microsoft Ads for cross-channel questions.
