AI Overviews footprint
Your CTR at each position now vs. a year ago, and every query losing clicks at the same rank: the trace AI Overviews and AI Mode leave in Search Console.
Show me how much AI Overviews and AI Mode are costing my site in clicks, as far as Search Console data allows. List my Search Console properties first and ask which one to use if I have more than one. Ask me for my brand terms so branded queries stay out of it, and which window to use (suggest one with enough impressions at each position). Run the ctr_shift analysis, which compares the same weeks a year apart unless I ask for another period. Then: (1) show the site's CTR at each position now vs. then, (2) list every query losing clicks at an unchanged position, sorted by estimated clicks lost, and mark the long, conversational ones, (3) group those queries by topic and find the pages they land on with the performance report, (4) say what share of the site's clicks this represents. Be clear about the limits: Google counts AI Overview and AI Mode clicks inside web totals and no API separates them, so a lower CTR at the same rank is a footprint they share with ads and other results features. Treat the estimates as a range. If the comparison crosses a data break, say what it affects, and if that makes the comparison unreliable, suggest a period that avoids it. Finish with what to do about the worst-hit queries: which pages to restructure so they answer the question directly, and which are better left alone.
Why this works
No API separates AI Overview or AI Mode clicks: Google counts both inside web totals. A lower CTR at an unchanged rank is the trace they leave, so this measures that, names the queries it hits and keeps the data caveats next to the numbers.
